    Default Paralle port problem

    hi all
i'm building a 3 axis cnc machine with mdf
    it has a work area of appr. x=70 y= 55 z=7.5 cm
when i connected the machine together i found that motors are missing steps locking moving in one direction and not the other or moving in the same direction with different buttons pressed in mach 3
    i have a 6 axis parallel port bob RAM Electronics : PC-CNC Parallel Interface Control 6 Axis - Compatible with MACH3 [KIT.BOB.3M] - 500.00L.E.
3 single axis tb6560 drivers and the pc is runnuing on window 7 ultimate 32 bit.
i thought the problem was with drivers as if i connect one driver the moves fine , and if more than one driver the problem happens
however i found that the 5 volts port on the board that is connected to all en pin on the drivers discharges only 2.55 volts when not connected to any driver , 2.1 volts when loaded with one driver (the one motor works fine in this condition) ,1.88 volts when connected to 3 driver (problem in motors movement)
so i thought the problem was with the bob 5 volts port
i called the board supplier and they asked me to send them the board and i did that
they called after 2 days confirming that there is nothing wrong with the board !!!
i did some search and found that i have to check the parallel port voltage
    (i found that it discharges 3.4 volts in dir pins ( x dir pin =no .14 y= no.3 z= no.4)
so i changed the parallel port modes (4 modes) in the bios and came with this results
    (Standard printer port mode pin 14=4.4 v pin 3=3.3 pin 4=3.3 v)
    (EPP+ECP mode pin 14=3.4 v pin 3=3.3 pin 4=3.3 v)
    (ECP mode pin 14=4.4 v pin 3=3.3 pin 4=3.3 v)
    (EPP mode pin 14=3.4 v pin 3=3.3 pin 4=3.3 v)

is the problem here is with the parallel port voltage or with the bob?
and what should i do about it?

    Drstation,

Do you have 5 volts d.c. at the BOB ?

    hello Jeff,
this 5 volt port gives 2.55 volts reading only with my pc .thats why i called and sent the bob to supplier and they confirmed the reading at 5 volts.

When you disconnect all the limit switches and stepper connections does it have 5 volts d.c.?

disconnecting all connections (even parallel cable) gives zero reading
only connecting parallel cable with no drivers , motors or limit switches connection ( reading 2.55 dc volts)

Simple solution: Purchase a 5 volt power supply and use it to power the logic connections on the stepper drives.

according to wiring diagram of the bob
i have to connect +5 volts of the board to all + of the driver ( clk,cw.en)
is it safe to get an external 5 volts supply and connect it to clk cw en of the driver (pardon me for asking such question cause i have very little knowledge of electricity and electronics)

Yes it is safe otherwise I would not have suggested doing so.

Connect the negative or (-) minus side of the power supply to the Bob (GND) and the positive or (+) plus side to all of the drivers.

See attached image for external power supply wiring:

    Thanks jeff
    I've seen the diaram
    Negative to gnd bob
    + to clk + cw+ of driver

    + to en+ too?
And Will a 5 volts 1 amp do the job
Or do i need at least 2 amps?
Can I use 5 volt wires of computer power supply?

Yes the 5 volts from the computer will work, use the same wiring diagram.

Yes If the enable requires + 5 volts to run the drives however most Chinese stepper drives do not require the enable connections.

A one (1) amp 5 volt d.c. power supply would suffice since the opto isolators only use about 15ma each.

    am i doing somethin wrong?

Try removing the power from the enable connection.

The ground needs a common connection between all boards.

and do not connect power to the enable connection

Added the wire and no wires to enable
    Still no movoment!!
And yes motor locks and in every previous connections

Are you sure the new power supply provides clean reliable 5 volts d.c.?

It is an 5 volts 2 amps dc switching wall adaptor
And it measures 5.1 volts by multimeter
